Was weak in studies so had to leave school, owners of more than 400 companies
On 18 July 1950, Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Nason was born in London,
the capital of England. His father was a barrister and mother was an
entrepreneur as well as being an air hostess. Richard's mother wanted
Richard to be ready for any challenge in life. So she used to give
different kinds of challenges to Richard since childhood. When Richard
was seven years old, his mother gave him the job of sending him something to
his grandfather's house. Grandpa's house was about 50 miles from his
house. His mother had given him some sandwiches packed and asked him to
arrange water for drinking. He returned home like a champion the next day
after handing over the goods to his grandfather's house. Richard could
not read properly due to dyslexia. He always lagged behind the other
children in the class. This was the reason he was forced to leave his
school at the age of 16. On the last day of school, the headmaster told
Richard that you would grow up to be a millionaire. After failing in a
business at the age of 16, he launched a magazine called 'Student' which was
his first successful work. His magazine became so famous that within 3 years of
starting it, he had earned around 4.5 million. He started moving
towards recording, succeeding in the magazine business. He also adopted a
dishonest way to succeed, due to which he also had to go to jail for a few
days. But within a few years he got a big failure in it. After this
he decided that he would never cheat again in life. Now they started trying
to take their recording business forward with complete honesty. Many
bands that were not signed by any company, he started giving them a chance in
their recording company (Virgin Recording). The albums of these bands became
very popular in England and in 1979, at the age of only 29, Sir Richard
Branson had earned crores of rupees. How Sir Richard's thinking differs
from that of a common man is evident in this incident that took place in his
life. One day Richard was to go on a date on Porto Rico Island.
When he learned that all the flights for that day had been canceled, he thought
of hiring a private plane instead of returning home from there. At that
time they had little money, first they found out the fare of the private plane
and then they sold all the tickets to Porto Rico Island and filled all the
seats on the plane and reached Puerto Rico Island. It was from there that
Virgin Airlines started.
He had to sell his favorite recording business in 1992 to continue
the business of the same airlines. Richard had tears in his eyes while
signing the contract paper. But emotions have no place in business.
One has to do whatever is necessary. Within four years, Richard had started
a new company called V2 Records. Gradually, he started many businesses
like telecommunications, travel and tourism. He started a business and
then made it successful and started another business. Thus, at the age of
69, today he has become the owner of 400 companies. The most
prominent among them is his space tourism company Virgin Galactic. This
company is working to move people into space. There are also two private
islands named after Richard. One of which they live in themselves.
He likes to be close to nature. He has received the title 'Knight' by
Queen Elizabeth 2 of England for his contribution to entrepreneurship, which
has led him to become 'Sir Richard Banson'.
These lessons learned from his life
1. Start thinking big at a young age.
2. Never be afraid to take risks.
3. Celebrate failure as well.
4. Never back down from helping people.
